What is Personal Electric Transportation? Personal electric transportation is any form of vehicle designed to carry one person that is powered by an electric motor and rechargeable batteries. The most common forms of personal electric vehicles are electric bicycles and electric scooters. There are many factors involved in choosing the right electric powered vehicle. For starters, you should determine if you want an electric bike or an electric scooter, if your preference is to pedal and do some of the work, or to pull back on a throttle and have the motor do most of the work for you. Keep in mind, our electric bikes and electric scooters are meant to augment human power, not completely replace it.
Electric Bicycle or Electric Scooter? What's right for me? Electric bikes and electric scooters can both work well in many situations, and by asking yourself a few questions you can determine which one will do the job for you. The main differences are size and range. Electric bicycles are bigger than electric scooters, but they offer greater range per charge, and you have the option to pedal with the power on or off. Electric scooters are smaller and more compact compared to the electric bicycles, which is an advantage for anyone who is "space challenged" (which is pretty much everyone living in New York City).
Once you've decided upon an electric bicycle over an electric scooter or vice versa, you should examine several other factors in order to narrow down your options in your quest for the perfect ride. For example, a 59 lb Pacelite 707 scooter might not be the best option for those living in a 5th floor walk-up, while a 19.5 lb Go Motorboard might better suit their needs with its light weight and portability. A pedal-assisted Giant electric bike would be almost a necessity in the Rocky Mountains or other areas with severe inclines, but you'll be fine riding with the power on or off with an eZee bike in the significantly flatter Virginia Beach.
What about Service and Repairs?
NYCEWheels stocks parts for all of the electric bikes, folding bikes, and electric scooters that we sell, as well as many others. We have a full service shop on the Upper East Side in New York City and a knowledgable staff ready to help you with your purchases and all related questions. We stand behind all of the products that we sell and provide full product support, even after your warranty has expired. We are happy to offer technical assistance over the phone and through email for our customers living outside of New York City. It isn't uncommon for us to ship replacement parts to a customer and then help walk them through the installation over the phone. Not sure if you need a new set of batteries or a new charger? Can't figure out what size drive belt your scooter takes? Call us and we can help you find the answer. We also do repairs by mail in the rare cases in which your electric bike or scooter cannot be fixed over the phone. We always do our best to find a way to get you riding again as quickly as possible.
